Make Your Searches More Reliable with This New Google Update
Googling information has become a sort of reflex whenever we come across something that we are unfamiliar with. However, have you ever wondered if the information we receive is accurate or not?
While we are all used to trusting information found on the search engine (and let’s be real, Google has never disappointed us), there is still a lot of information out there to sift through. And although Google search helps us find high-quality information from diverse (and credible) sources, it is always a good idea to double-check. Since everyone is entitled to reliable and factually correct information, Google has built features to help us evaluate the information we come across while also expanding the range of helpful information. Let’s see how we can do it.
Get Context with ‘About this Page’
Now, it will be easier to find out more details about the author and subject of a certain page by clicking on the three dots next to the result. Google is now making it even simpler to get this information. With the new update, you will be to immediately read the website’s self-description, other people’s online opinions about it, and any recent media coverage of it. This feature is now available globally.
Get to Know the Authors with ‘About this Author’
For readers to learn more about the authors of the information they are reading, Google search results will include an “about this author” section. This section will include background information about the authors. This feature builds on Google’s existing “about this result” feature, which was introduced in 2021.
Learn More with ‘About This Result’
When you do a Google search, you are likely to receive results from a variety of websites and sources that you may or may not be familiar with. With Google’s About this result feature, now available in all languages, you will be able to evaluate the information and where it is coming from.
Perspectives Feature
It is just as important to discover a range of sources and perspectives that can help you better understand a news story as it is to understand the source. And to help achieve that, Google has come up with a feature called Perspectives. The new Perspectives carousel will feature insights from a range of journalists, experts, and other relevant voices on the topic beneath the top stories. The desktop and mobile versions of the functionality will first go live in the US in English.
Spot Information Gaps
Occasionally, a search returns a small amount of useful information, or the results change rapidly; both of these situations can be crucial for people to understand. To fill these information gaps, Google Search will automatically display content advisories when a topic is evolving. This, however, does not mean that there is a lack of useful information or that a particular outcome is of low quality. It would only give context to the entire set of results on the page, and even when some advice is present, you will see the results for your query.
In addition to these new features, the tech giant has also set to launch its Global Fact Check Fund in the coming days with a $13.2-million grant to the International Fact-Checking Network. More than 130 fact-checking organizations from 65 different nations and 80 different languages will be supported by the fund.
